Key Not Detected?
The “Steering Column Trick” to Start Your Car NOW.
When your key fob battery dies, it loses its “long-range” signal. You’re not stranded—you just need to use the Passive NFC override built into your car by the factory.
Follow These 3 Steps:
LOCATE THE SENSOR: Look at your steering column. You will see a small icon that looks like waves or a key with lines coming off it.
PHYSICAL CONTACT: Hold your dead key fob directly against that icon. Don’t just hover; touch the plastic to the column.
START ENGINE: While holding the key there, press your brake and hit the START button as you normally would.
The 3rd-Gen Builder’s Note:
If this trick doesn’t work, it usually isn’t a dead battery—it’s a Security Module or Antenna failure. In Edmond’s heat, these modules can desync or overheat. If you’re stuck, you need a specialist who can code the module, not just a tow truck driver.
