Building the Ultimate SN95 Mustang for Rocky Mountain Race Week

The journey to Rocky Mountain Race Week continues as we transform our 1998 Mustang GT SN95 into a turbocharged street-and-strip machine. With only 53,000 miles on the odometer, this Mustang is the perfect candidate for a serious performance overhaul. Our goal? Dominate the 12.0 class with a well-balanced mix of power, reliability, and efficiency.

Stripping It Down for Performance

One of the first major modifications in our build is the removal of the factory core support to make way for a UPR moly K-member. This upgrade is a game-changer, significantly reducing weight while improving engine bay access and suspension geometry. By shedding unnecessary pounds, we’re setting up the SN95 for better weight distribution and improved handling, both crucial factors for consistent quarter-mile performance.

Turbo Power Incoming

A 70mm turbo is the centerpiece of this build, delivering the boost needed to push this 4.6L two-valve into serious performance territory. Along with the turbo, we’re upgrading the intake, heads, and cams to optimize airflow and combustion efficiency. Supporting modifications, including a full fuel system overhaul, will ensure that we have the right mix of air and fuel to make reliable power throughout Race Week.

Built for the Long Haul

Unlike a typical drag build, Rocky Mountain Race Week demands that the car not only perform at the track but also survive long-distance drives between events. That means a careful balance of power and reliability. The upgraded K-member and A-arms will help with ride quality and durability, while a well-planned tuning strategy will keep things running smoothly on pump gas and race fuel.

What’s Next?

With the K-member installation underway, the next steps will include fitting the suspension components, finalizing turbo placement, and refining the fueling setup. Stay tuned as we push forward with this build, bringing a mix of street manners and track performance to the SN95 platform.
